Journey of

The idea of making retail management woes disappear came from a long-term friendship and trust between Aman Singh, owner and manager of Punjab food at Alhambra, California, and Hashbrown Systems. Aman has been managing a successful medium-sized retail business in the heart of Los Angeles for over a decade now. He caters to 3 to 4 neighbourhoods with a dense Indian and South- Asian population. Like with most privately-owned neighbourhood stores, he has a very personalized and unique relationship with most of his customers. These customers have been frequenting his shop for years and he has catered to all of their special requests and everyday useable items. His philosophy is simple, “Never send a customer back empty handed. If you can’t give him the product he needs, give a definite time when that product will be available for him.” His commitment to provide great service to his customers has given him a competitive edge over the others in the business. But the competition has increased, as more and more retail establishments such as discount grocers, hypermarkets and other mom and pop have grown in the area and his customer’s loyalty has become imperative to his success and his own personal growth that is steamed with a desire to provide the best customer service to his clientele.

Like most neighbourhood retail businesses, Aman stores a variety of products to meet the demands of the diverse customer base that his shop serves, which includes Indian goods such as Rani foods, South-Asian goods and a large chunk of Mexican goods, alongside FMCG (Fast moving consumer goods like Pepsi, P&G ). These goods run into thousands and have different order cycles and supply chains, which essentially means that Aman must manage many supply chains simultaneously and deal with a varied range of vendors from small-scale vendor to large product firms. For example, the FMCG has a monthly order cycle and multinational vendor whereas specialised food items have a very high velocity and hence, have an order cycle varying from a week to fortnight, vendors for these products also range from medium to small size FMCG firms. Managing these multiple supply chains and product stocking involves spending a lot of time talking to the vendors on the phone to place orders and once the order has arrived, a significant time is spent going through the shelves to ensure all the products are stocked correctly. This process is especially intense for the high-velocity specialised items as they require to be stocked frequently, sometimes even bi-weekly.

Managing multiple products and supply chains in a dynamic and efficient manner requires an extensive and detailed inventory management process to guarantee that all the inventory is stocked and available. But all this requires loads of energy and time to go into the management process and didn’t allow Aman much time to invest in customer service and building relationships with his customers, which is paramount for Aman and the growth of his business.

We, at Hashbrown, have built a simple and efficient application to make managing multiple supply chains and inventory management easier, faster and efficient. The result of this endeavour is With, order, inventory and vendor management are available in a mobile application, which allows Aman to spend more time focusing on better store management and building relationships with customers to improve customer loyalty. Better inventory management has led to more successful sales and better ordering and stocking system for the store. allows retailers to connect with multiple vendors and manage all product orders with just a few clicks. These features have helped Aman reduce the time spent on managing inventory and increasing sales, both these factors have contributed to saving Aman’s time, effort and money. Aman highly recommends to all his colleagues and we are grateful for his support and contribution. Don’t take our word for it, go ahead and try it. Download for iOS and Android from
